ERRIN at the Living-in.EU Mayors’ Digital Assembly

On Thursday 15 June 2023, ERRIN participated in the first Living-in.EU Mayors Digital Assembly at the Brussels Urban Summit.

This first political event of the Living-in.EU movement, which ERRIN joined through the Go Li.EU project in 2022 alongside Eurocities, ENoLL, Open & Agile Smart Cities (OASC) and The Council of European Municipalities and Regions, was a chance to reflect on the importance of digital transformation for local and regional authorities.

Many announcements were made and there will be a number of opportunities for ERRIN members to engage or strengthen their digital transformation in the coming months :

  • The ‘Local Digital Twin & Citiverse EDIC‘ was launched by the European Commission in collaboration with five member states: Estonia, Germany, Slovenia, Czech Republic and Spain. This funding instrument falls under the Commission’s Digital Decade Policy Programme 2030 and establishes the European Digital Infrastructure Consortium (EDIC) as a platform for shared investments and knowledge exchange on a European scale. The role of Regions and cities will be discussed in the frame of Living-in.EU subgroups, accessible to Living-in.EU signatories, but also in the ERRIN ICT Working Group if this topic is interesting for our members.
  • LORDIMAS is an assessment tool for local digital maturity, developed as part of the Living-in.EU initiative, in collaboration with the Committee of the Regions, the European Commission and ESPON. This instrument, which will be launched on 2 October in all EU languages, will enable cities and regions to evaluate their digital progress in comparison to their peers, providing valuable insights and a comprehensive overview of the state of digital transformation.
  • Four ERRIN members joined the movement and signed the ‘Join, Boost, Sustain Declaration: Frankfurt Rhein-Main, Flanders, Centre-Val de Loire and Pays de la Loire.

With Living-in.EU, ERRIN and our partners are working towards the recognition of the role of cities and regions in deciding what the future of digital transformation will look like.
