Logroño is the capital of La Rioja and concentrates 46% of the region’s population, with 151,136 inhabitants. It is the region’s main industrial, financial, and cultural centre. Logroño’s economy relies on tourism and services, especially related to wine and gastronomy. With the ambition of becoming European Green Capital, Logroño’s vision is structured in five strategic axes:

- Green city: sustainability and resource efficiency Logroño is currently immersed in its green digital transformation, designing and implementing ICT tools to maximize the performance and sustainability of both public services and infrastructures. It counts on a smart city platform that integrates data from different areas and is currently adding vertical solutions and tools for various departments. It was selected to participate in the Intelligent Cities Challenge program. Logroño’s flagship project for the upcoming years consists of the regeneration of the historic quarter through the valorization of its wine cultural heritage. The project intends to transform the district into an internationally renowned wine knowledge hub, integrating culture, gastronomy and tourism, but also education, specialized training, business and technology.
Family Intelligent Energy Saving Targeted Action - an Energy Help Desk was established in each partner city to help families improve their energy use and achieve energy savings at home. 2.100 home energy audits were performed in 14 cities, with considerable energy savings and CO2 emission reduction.
Demonstrating and quantifying the great CO2 emissions reduction potential of better and smart use of information and communication technologies (ICT), both reducing the sector carbon footprint and promoting the use of ICT for better environmental services.
Promote the labour insertion of local young people by improving their personal development and employability. Young VET students from several local formative centres were sent to several European countries for the development of their training practices.
Study of urban naturalization to mitigate the effects of climate change. The project aims to compute the environmental effect of existing green areas and compare it with the proposed naturalization interventions.
LIFE URBAN WATER
Integrated monitoring and control of the urban water cycle and infrastructure joining various independent technologies, including irrigation and treatment of public gardens using precision agriculture.
