Seminar: Multi-actor participatory water management for climate change adaptation at farm level

Representation of the South Moravian region, Czech Liaison Office for Research, Development and Innovation (CZELO) and its partners are pleased to invite you to seminar “Multi-actor participatory water management for climate change adaptation at farm level”. Climate change impacts water availability. At the farm and local community’s level this requires adaptation of crop and livestock production and consequently changes in the management. The adaptation may comprise the following strategies: increasing water availability, water use efficiency, and improving resilience. This requires utilization of precision farming strategies optimizing resource efficiency and minimizing environmental impacts, soil management for improved water availability and quality as well as advanced modelling tools for water resource management and decision support systems for policy makers. Many measures are available to face adaptation. Among these, the efficient approaches are Natural Water Retention measures, conservative agriculture, various techniques of stream nutrient recovery, precision irrigation aided by remote sensing, combined with properly designed Decision Support Systems. These may be valuable for increasing water availability and water use efficiency, supporting water reuse, helping the local farmers to adapt for climate change impacts related to water availability. The multi-layered and multi-stakeholder participatory approach is needed in water management for ensuring a comprehensive and consistent view on sustainability challenges, materialized by technical concepts, and enhanced by public awareness on water consumption and usage savings. Communicating a set of best practices addressing relevant challenges across the water cycle, finally helps in growing a shared knowledge on the value of water. This seminar aims to present the policy and stakeholders’ view on the subject, including the discussion on challenges for Water and Agriculture adaptive strategies at farm level. The other speakers include representatives of RTD institutions based in Italy and the Czech Republic. We very much hope that you will be able to join us on 23 May 2018 at the KoWi meeting room, Rue du Trone 98, Brussels. Please register here: http://geform.tc.cz/water before 16 May 2018. Light lunch is served from 13:00 and seminar starts at 14:00. Feel free to disseminate invitation to your colleagues and stakeholders.
